Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
The Latvian simple past describes completed actions by adding specific suffixes like -a or -āja to the verb stem.
- For 1st conjugation verbs, remove the infinitive ending and add -a (e.g., lasīt -> lasīja).
- For 2nd conjugation verbs, the stem often ends in -o, adding -ja (e.g., saprast -> saprata).
- Negative sentences use the particle 'ne-' attached to the verb (e.g., nezināja).
