A1 Possessives 1 min read Facile

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

In Kazakh, you don't use 'my' or 'your' as separate words; you attach a suffix to the end of the noun.

  • For 'my' (1st person), add -m or -ym/-im depending on the vowel.
  • For 'your' (2nd person informal), add -n or -yn/-in.
  • For 'his/her/its' (3rd person), add -sy/-si or -y/-i.
Noun + Suffix = Possession (e.g., 'Дос' + 'ым' = 'Досым' / My friend)

Meanings

Possessive suffixes indicate ownership or relationship between a noun and a person.

1

Indicating an object belongs to someone.
