Nouns in Danish have grammatical gender (common or neuter). 'Hold' is a common gender noun.
Et hold (a team) - *Note: 'et' is the indefinite article for common gender nouns.*
The definite singular form of common gender nouns ending in a consonant is formed by adding '-en'.
Holdet (the team) - *Note: 'hold' ends in 'd', a consonant.*
The plural of some common gender nouns is the same as the singular form.
Mange hold (many teams) - *Note: 'hold' does not change in the plural here.*
When a common gender noun is preceded by an adjective, the definite article 'den' is used, and the noun takes its indefinite form.
Det gode hold (the good team) - *Note: 'det' is used before 'gode hold' instead of 'holdet'.*
