When Koreans refer to months, they generally use Sino-Korean numbers followed by the word 월 (wol), meaning “month.” However, there are two exceptions: June and October. Instead of 육월 (yuk-wol) for June, the standalone word 유월 (yu-wol) is used, with the original 'k' sound omitted. Similarly, October is 시월 (si-wol) instead of 십월 (sip-wol).

This is not a grammatical rule but a common pronunciation convention that became standard over time. Therefore, while 육월 and 십월 are technically understandable, 유월 and 시월 are the natural and correct ways to refer to June and October, respectively.
