Double Causatives
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Double causatives allow you to express that someone is forcing or enabling a second person to perform an action.
- Add -dir/-dır/-dur/-dür to the root for the first causative: 'yaz' (write) -> 'yazdır' (make write).
- Add a second causative suffix (-t or -ız/-iz) to create the double effect: 'yazdır' -> 'yazdırt' (make someone make someone write).
- Use the dative case (-a/-ə) for the person being forced to perform the action.
Meanings
The double causative indicates a chain of command where the subject causes Person A to cause Person B to perform an action.
Delegated Causation
The subject instructs an intermediary to ensure a task is completed by a third party.
