"Yhteinen sävel"

Common ground/understanding. When people find common ground, they have 'yhteinen sävel'.

He löysivät yhteisen sävelen neuvotteluissa. (They found common ground in the negotiations.)

"Yhteinen rintama"

United front. When people or groups present a united front, they have 'yhteinen rintama'.

On tärkeää muodostaa yhteinen rintama ilmastonmuutosta vastaan. (It's important to form a united front against climate change.)

"Yhteinen nimittäjä"

Common denominator. Something that is common to all members of a group or set.

Heidän ainoa yhteinen nimittäjänsä oli rakkaus musiikkiin. (Their only common denominator was a love for music.)

"Yhteinen kieli"

Common language (literal or figurative). Can refer to speaking the same language, or understanding each other.

Meillä on yhteinen kieli, vaikka puhumme eri murteita. (We have a common language, even though we speak different dialects.)

"Yhteinen asia"

Common cause. Something that a group of people is working together to achieve.

Taistelemme yhteisen asian puolesta. (We are fighting for a common cause.)

"Yhteinen hyvä"

Common good. What is beneficial for all members of a community.

Tämä päätös on yhteisen hyvän mukainen. (This decision is in line with the common good.)

"Yhteinen tulevaisuus"

Shared future. The idea of a future that is common to a group of people.

Meillä on yhteinen tulevaisuus rakennettavana. (We have a shared future to build.)

"Yhteinen pesä"

Common nest (figurative for shared household/home). Often used in legal contexts for shared property or finances.

Eron jälkeen he jakoivat yhteisen pesän. (After the divorce, they divided the shared household assets.)

"Yhteinen pöytä"

Common table. Refers to a shared meal or a shared space for eating.

Kokoonnuimme yhteisen pöydän ääreen. (We gathered around the common table.)

"Yhteinen sävel puuttuu"

Lack of common ground/understanding. The opposite of 'yhteinen sävel'.

Heidän väliltään puuttui yhteinen sävel. (There was a lack of common ground between them.)
