Type 3 Conditional: Unreal Past
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use the Third Conditional to talk about past situations that didn't happen and their imaginary results.
- Use 'եթե' (if) + Past Perfect (or equivalent) for the condition.
- Use the conditional mood (would have) for the result.
- Remember: It is impossible to change the past, so this is purely hypothetical.
Meanings
The Third Conditional describes a hypothetical past situation and its imaginary consequence. It is used to express regret or relief about things that cannot be changed.
Regret
Expressing sadness about a past choice.

Expressing happiness that something bad didn't happen.
