詳しく説明すると

You usually place this at the start of a sentence. It follows a brief statement or a question. For example, if someone asks how your weekend was, you might say 'It was crazy.' Then, you follow up with 詳しく説明すると... to tell the whole wild story. It works perfectly with the 〜という感じです (it's like...) ending to wrap things up.

This phrase is a powerhouse in professional settings. Use it during a presentation when a slide is too simple. It’s also great when you’re teaching a friend a complex board game. Use it when texting a long explanation about why you're running late. It makes you sound organized and thoughtful about the listener's understanding.

Avoid using this if the explanation is actually very short. If you only have one more sentence to say, it feels a bit dramatic. Also, don't use it in high-pressure emergency situations. If the building is on fire, don't say 詳しく説明すると.... Just point to the exit! It can also feel a bit condescending if used for something painfully obvious.
