Cultural Background

Public displays of anger are generally frowned upon. A person who can keep a 'Seik Aye' (cool mind) even when they have a reason to be 'Seik To' is highly respected. Younger generations use 'Seik to' much more freely on social media to express dissatisfaction with services or social issues, showing a shift toward more direct emotional expression. In a Burmese office, if a boss is 'Seik to', employees will often remain very quiet and use 'A-nar-de' to navigate the situation. They will rarely talk back. In dating, 'Seik to' is often used as a 'cute' way to show one is seeking attention or 'sulking' (known as 'Sate kout').
