सलाह लेना

You use सलाह लेना when you need direction. Think of a big life choice. Should you change jobs? Should you move cities? Or even a small one. What movie should you watch tonight? Who should you ask? Someone you trust. Someone with experience. Someone who knows the subject. You can ask a boss, a mentor, or a parent. Even a close friend can offer good सलाह. Just make sure they are qualified to give it! You wouldn't ask your cat for stock market tips, right? That might be a tough सलाह to get.

• परामर्श करना (paramarsh karna): This is a more formal term. It means 'to consult'. You'd use this in professional settings. Like consulting a lawyer or a doctor. It sounds very serious, like you're signing a treaty.
• पूछना (poochhna): This just means 'to ask'. You can ask for advice, but पूछना itself is broader. You can ask for the time or directions. It lacks the specific nuance of seeking guidance.

• सलाह लेनी है (salaah leni hai): 'I need to take advice.' This is very common.
• सलाह चाहिए (salaah chahiye): 'I need advice.' This is a bit more direct.
• किसी से सलाह लेना (kisi se salaah lena): 'To take advice from someone.' Adds clarity.
• क्या आप मुझे सलाह दे सकते हैं? (kya aap mujhe salaah de sakte hain?): 'Can you give me advice?' This is asking someone to give advice, so it uses देना (to give).
