In the Levant, people often use 'بأضرب الأحوال' (in the most hitting/striking cases) as a more colorful, slightly more informal version of the phrase. Egyptians might use 'في أوحش الظروف' (in the ugliest circumstances) in very casual speech, though 'في أسوأ الأحوال' remains the standard for anything semi-formal. In the Gulf, the phrase is used heavily in business contexts. It is often paired with 'الله لا يقدر' (May God not decree it) to soften the mention of a negative outcome. Speakers here often mix MSA with local Darija. They might use 'في أسوأ الحالات' more frequently than 'الأحوال' due to French influence ('Dans le pire des cas').
