Double Object Verbs
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Double object verbs in Azerbaijani use the Dative case for the recipient and the Accusative case for the direct object.
- Recipient gets the Dative suffix (-a/-ə): Mən dostuma (to my friend) kitab verdim.
- Direct object gets the Accusative suffix (-ı/-i/-u/-ü) if specific: Mən kitabı (the book) verdim.
- The verb usually comes at the very end of the sentence.
Meanings
These verbs require two objects: a recipient (indirect) and a theme (direct). In Azerbaijani, this is marked by case suffixes rather than word order.
Giving/Transferring
Passing an item to someone.
“O mənə pul verdi.”

Showing/Teaching
Presenting information or items to someone.
“Mən sənə şəhəri göstərirəm.”
