In Iran, gratitude is often expressed multiple times. You might say 'Vāqe'an mamnunam' when you receive a gift, again when you open it, and once more when you leave. In Dari, 'Tashakkor' is more common than 'Mamnun', but 'Vāqe'an' is still used for emphasis. The sentiment of sincerity remains the same. Tajik speakers might use 'Rahmat' (from Arabic Mercy) more often, but in formal Persian contexts, 'Mamnun' is understood and respected. In the diaspora (Tehrangeles, London, etc.), 'Vāqe'an merci' is a very common hybrid, blending the sincere Persian adverb with the French-derived 'merci'.
