Negating Verbs: The Particle չ-
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
To make a verb negative in Armenian, simply attach the prefix 'չ-' to the beginning of the verb.
- Attach 'չ-' directly to the verb: 'գալ' (to come) becomes 'չգալ' (not to come).
- If the verb starts with a vowel, it remains attached: 'ուտել' (to eat) becomes 'չուտել' (not to eat).
- In conjugated forms, the prefix attaches to the start of the word: 'գնում եմ' becomes 'չեմ գնում'.
