In Iran, 'Tell me about yourself' often includes questions about your father's profession or your hometown. This isn't seen as intrusive but as a way to find common ground (Ham-shahrism). In Dari-speaking regions, the phrase is equally common but might be followed by a request to share one's 'takhallos' (family name/title) to establish social standing. Tajik Persian (Tajiki) uses similar structures but might be influenced by Russian social norms, making the introduction slightly more direct. In the diaspora (e.g., Los Angeles), the phrase is often used as a direct translation of the English 'Tell me about yourself', sometimes losing the traditional Ta'arof nuances.
