Cleanliness is deeply tied to the concept of 'Barkat' (blessing). A clean home is believed to attract positive energy and divine favor. The 'Drawing Room' is the most important room to keep clean, as it is where guests are received. It is often kept locked or unused by children to maintain its cleanliness. Urdu speakers in the Gulf often use this phrase with migrant workers from other South Asian countries, where it serves as a lingua franca for domestic work. Metaphorically, 'cleaning the room' can refer to cleaning the 'heart' (qalb) of worldly desires, a common theme in Urdu poetry.
