Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Rhetorical questions in Greek are statements disguised as questions to emphasize a point, often requiring no actual answer from the listener.

  • Use negative interrogatives to express strong affirmation: 'Δεν είναι υπέροχο;' (Isn't it wonderful?)
  • Use 'Ποιος/Ποια/Ποιο' to imply 'Nobody': 'Ποιος ξέρει;' (Who knows? = Nobody knows.)
  • Use rhetorical 'Γιατί' to express frustration or disbelief: 'Γιατί να το κάνω αυτό;' (Why would I do that?)
Statement + ? = Rhetorical Emphasis
