Compound Words (Сложни думи)

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Compound words combine two or more roots into one unit, usually linked by the vowels 'o' or 'e'.

  • Use connecting vowels -о- or -е- to join roots, like 'водолаз' (water + dive).
  • Hyphenate words where both parts retain independent identity, like 'кандидат-студент'.
  • Write as one word when the parts merge into a single concept, like 'правопис'.
Root 1 + (о/е) + Root 2 = New Concept 🧩
