Pense one person, singular verb.
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Even though 'everybody' means many people, it is grammatically singular and always takes a singular verb like 'is'.
- Treat 'everybody' as one single group: 'Everybody is here' (not are).
- Use singular verbs for all -body and -one words: 'Someone has my keys'.
- Use 'are' only when you use the word 'all' with plural nouns: 'All people are'.
Overview
Donc, tu ne diras jamais Everyone are here. The students left. They are tired. | They remplace un groupe spécifique (les étudiants). |Everybody left. Everybody is tired. | Everybody traite chaque personne comme une unité. |team, family, staff). En anglais britannique, on peut parfois dire The team are playing well si on pense aux membres individuellement. Que tu sois à Londres, New York ou Sydney, everybody sera toujours suivi d'un verbe au singulier.he (il), she (elle) ou it (ça).Everybody est identique à celle pour He/She :be) | Present Simple (action) | Past Simple (be) | Present Perfect |is | works | was | has worked |is | works | was | has worked |is | knows | was | has known |is | cares | was | has cared |are | work | were | have worked |Everybody is waiting for the meeting to start.(Tout le monde attend que la réunion commence.)Someone seems to have left their umbrella.(Quelqu'un semble avoir oublié son parapluie.)Nobody was prepared for the news.(Personne n'était préparé pour la nouvelle.)
do, does, is, are) doit impérativement être au singulier.- Correct :
- Incorrect :
Are everybody ready? - Correct :
Does anyone have a pen?(Est-ce que quelqu'un a un stylo ?) - Incorrect :
Do anyone have a pen?
- Correct :
Nobody knows the answer.(Personne ne connaît la réponse.) - Correct :
- *Exemple :*
“If anybody needs more time, please let me know.”(Si quelqu'un a besoin de plus de temps, prévenez-moi.)
- *Exemple :*
“Is everyone okay with pizza for dinner?”(Tout le monde est d'accord pour une pizza ce soir ?) - *Exemple :*
“Somebody was singing very loudly last night!”(Quelqu'un chantait très fort hier soir !)
- *Exemple :*
“Nobody is perfect.”(Personne n'est parfait.) - *Exemple :*
“Everyone wants to be happy.”(Tout le monde veut être heureux.)
Nobody / No one :Nobody porte déjà la négation. On ne rajoute pas not.- *Correct :*
Nobody knows. - *Incorrect :*
Nobody doesn't know.
everybody désigne plusieurs personnes, on a tendance à vouloir utiliser are ou have (le pluriel).- L'erreur :
Everybody are happy.
All the peopleest pluriel :All the people are here.Everybodyest singulier :Everybody is here.- L'erreur : Mélanger les deux et dire
Everybody are here.
Everybody has his or her own opinion.(C'est lourd et un peu daté). - *Usage moderne :*
Everybody has their own opinion.
- *Exemple correct :*
Everyone is (singulier) here because they (pluriel) want to learn.
Everybody is happy. |Each person has a ticket. |All the people are happy. |The group is small. |They are happy. |He (Il), utilise le singulier.Everybody is...→He is...(Ça marche !)Everybody are...→He are...(Ça sonne faux, donc c'est faux !)
All the people, tu peux le remplacer par They :All the people are...→They are...(Ça marche !)
On dit Nobody is perfect et non Nobody are perfect. Verb Agreement with Everybody/Everyone

FAQ (8)
It is a collective pronoun. It treats the group as one single unit, similar to the word 'team' or 'family'.
In standard English, no. It is always `is`. However, in tag questions, we use plural: `Everybody is here, aren't they?`
There is no difference in meaning. `Everyone` is slightly more formal, while `everybody` is more common in speech.
In modern English, `their` is the most common and accepted way to be gender-neutral: `Everybody has their own seat.`
No, it can also mean `everybody has` (e.g., `Everybody's been told`) or be a possessive (e.g., `Everybody's opinion matters`).
Yes! `Nobody`, `somebody`, and `anybody` all follow the same singular verb rule.
You might hear this in some British dialects or very casual speech, but it is technically a mistake in Standard English.
Just remember: `EveryBODY` = `One body`. One body needs a singular verb like `is`.
