آلو

آلو (ɒːˈluː) is a common Persian word referring to the fruit known in English as a plum. It is a popular fruit in Iran and other Persian-speaking regions, enjoyed for its sweet and sometimes tart flavor, as well as its juicy flesh. Plums come in various sizes and colors, ranging from purple and red to yellow and green, and these variations are often distinguished with descriptive adjectives in Persian, such as 'آلو سیاه' (black plum) or 'آلو زرد' (yellow plum).

The fruit is typically eaten fresh, but it is also widely used in Persian cuisine. In some contexts, 'آلو' can also refer to a small tree that bears this fruit, though 'درخت آلو' (derakht-e aloo – plum tree) is more specific when referring to the plant itself.
