Present Continuous for Future Arrangements
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use the Present Continuous (am/is/are + verb-ing) to talk about plans you have already made with other people.
- Use it for fixed arrangements: 'I am meeting Sarah at 5 PM.'
- Include a time word: 'We are flying to Paris next week.'
- Don't use it for random intentions: 'I am thinking of going' (use 'going to' instead).
Overview
- I am meeting Tom tomorrow. (already arranged)
- She is flying to Rome on Friday. (ticket booked)
- We are having dinner with friends tonight.
- I am meeting her tonight / next week / on Saturday.
- Without a time word, it means NOW: She is working. (present, not future)
