Present Continuous for Future Arrangements

Use present continuous (am/is/are + -ing) for fixed future arrangements — things already planned and often in your diary.

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use the Present Continuous (am/is/are + verb-ing) to talk about plans you have already made with other people.

  • Use it for fixed arrangements: 'I am meeting Sarah at 5 PM.'
  • Include a time word: 'We are flying to Paris next week.'
  • Don't use it for random intentions: 'I am thinking of going' (use 'going to' instead).
Subject + am/is/are + Verb-ing + Time/Place

مرور کلی

## Present Continuous for Future Arrangements
We can use the present continuous to talk about the future when something is already arranged and fixed.
### Form: am/is/are + -ing + future time word
  • I am meeting Tom tomorrow. (already arranged)
  • She is flying to Rome on Friday. (ticket booked)
  • We are having dinner with friends tonight.
### Future continuous vs will/going to
| Form | Use |
|---|---|
| am/is/are + -ing | Fixed arrangement (in the diary) |
| going to | Intention / plan decided |
| will | Prediction / quick decision |
### Key: always add a future time word
  • I am meeting her tonight / next week / on Saturday.
  • Without a time word, it means NOW: She is working. (present, not future)
