Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use 'dapat' to express ability or possibility, functioning similarly to 'can' or 'be able to' in English.

  • Place 'dapat' before the main verb: Saya dapat berenang (I can swim).
  • For negative, use 'tidak dapat': Dia tidak dapat datang (He cannot come).
  • For questions, place 'dapat' at the start or after the subject: Dapatkah kamu membantu? (Can you help?).
