Using Counting Forms (Бройни форми)

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

In Bulgarian, nouns change their ending when you count them using numbers like 2, 3, or 4.

  • Use the standard plural for numbers 5 and above: 'пет стола' (five chairs).
  • Use the special 'counting form' for numbers 2, 3, and 4: 'два стола' (two chairs).
  • Masculine nouns ending in a consonant usually add '-а' or '-я' in the counting form.
Number (2-4) + Noun-а/я (Counting Form) | Number (5+) + Noun-и/е (Plural)
