The 'My' and 'Your' forms

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

In Kazakh, you don't use separate words like 'my' or 'your'; you attach a suffix to the end of the noun.

  • For 'my', add -m or -ym/-im depending on the last letter.
  • For 'your' (informal), add -ñ or -yñ/-iñ depending on the last letter.
  • Vowel harmony is the key: match the suffix vowels to the noun's last vowel.
Noun + Suffix = Possessive (e.g., Дос + ым = Досым)
