Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
When adding the prefix 'me-' to a verb starting with B, C, D, J, or G, the first letter is replaced by a nasal sound.
- B becomes M: 'baca' becomes 'membaca'.
- C becomes NY: 'cari' becomes 'mencari'.
- D becomes N: 'dengar' becomes 'mendengar'.
Meanings
The 'me-' prefix turns a root word into an active verb, and nasalization ensures smooth pronunciation when the root starts with specific consonants.
Active Verb Formation
Indicates an action performed by the subject.
“Dia membaca surat.”
“Mereka mencari kunci.”
