مرور کلی
Where is...? استفاده میکنیم. برای ما فارسیزبانان، این ساختار در ابتدا ممکن است ساده به نظر برسد، اما تفاوتهای ساختاری عمیقی با زبان مادری ما دارد که باید به آنها توجه کنیم.is باید قبل از فاعل بیاید (در حالت سوالی) و کلمه پرسشی Where حتماً در ابتدای جمله قرار میگیرد.Where is bank?؛ حتماً باید از the یا a استفاده کنید.Where is...? The hotel is here. اما برای سوالی کردن، باید جای فعل و فاعل را عوض کنیم: Is the hotel here?.Where را اضافه میکنیم، این نظم حفظ میشود: Where is the hotel?. این ساختار در فارسی وجود ندارد؛ ما در فارسی فقط با تغییر لحن (intonation) یا اضافه کردن کلمه پرسشی، جمله را سوالی میکنیم بدون اینکه جای فعل و فاعل را تغییر دهیم. در انگلیسی، این «وارونگی» یک قانونِ سفت و سخت است.Where are...? استفاده کنید که در فارسی معادلِ «... کجا هستند؟» است.Where + is + (article/determiner) + (singular noun)?Where | قید پرسشی | Where | همیشه در ابتدای جمله میآید |is | فعل | is | فعلِ بودن برای مفرد |the / a / an | حرف تعریف | the, a | برای مشخص کردن اسم |my / your | صفت ملکی | my, your | برای مالکیت |Singular Noun | فاعل | station | چیزی که دنبالش هستیم |Where's استفاده میکنند. به جای گفتن Where is the book? میگویند Where's the book?. این کار باعث میشود جملات شما طبیعیتر و روانتر به نظر برسد.- 1پیدا کردن اشیاء: وقتی وسیلهای را گم کردهاید، مثلاً
Where is my phone?(گوشی من کجاست؟). - 2پرسیدن آدرس: وقتی در شهر غریبه هستید و میخواهید به ایستگاه مترو بروید، میپرسید
Where is the subway station?. - 3پیدا کردن یک مکان عمومی: وقتی به دنبال هر نوع داروخانهای هستید، میگویید
Where is a pharmacy?(یک داروخانه کجاست؟). توجه کنید که استفاده ازaنشان میدهد که «هر» داروخانهای برای شما کافی است. - 4پرسش درباره اشخاص: مثلاً در محیط کار میپرسید
Where is the manager?(مدیر کجاست؟). - 5محیطهای دیجیتال و نقشهها: وقتی در حال کار با یک اپلیکیشن هستید و دکمه تنظیمات را پیدا نمیکنید، میپرسید
Where is the settings button?.
- 1حذف فعل
is: در فارسی ما میگوییم «بانک کجاست؟» که در واقع فعل در کلمه «کجاست» ادغام شده است. فارسیزبانان گاهی انگلیسی را هم همینطور ترجمه میکنند:Where the bank?. این غلط است، چون انگلیسی بدون فعل معنا ندارد. همیشه بگوییدWhere is the bank?.
- 1عدم استفاده از حروف تعریف: در فارسی ما «کتاب» را هم برای «یک کتاب» و هم «آن کتاب» به کار میبریم. اما در انگلیسی، وقتی درباره یک اسم مفردِ قابل شمارش صحبت میکنید، حتماً باید از
a,anیاtheاستفاده کنید. گفتنِWhere is bank?برای یک انگلیسیزبان، شبیه به این است که شما در فارسی بگویید «کجا هست بانک؟» که بسیار عجیب است.
- 1اشتباه در تطابق فعل و فاعل: فارسیزبانان گاهی فراموش میکنند که
isفقط برای مفرد است. مثلاً برای کلیدها که جمع هستند، اشتباهاً میگویندWhere is my keys?. به یاد داشته باشید: مفرد =is، جمع =are.
Station?؟a و the در سوال چیست؟Where is the bank? یعنی دنبال یک بانکِ خاص هستید (مثلاً همان بانکی که قرار است پول برداشت کنید). وقتی میگویید Where is a bank? یعنی دنبال «هر» بانکی هستید که نزدیک باشد.Where is همیشه باید مخفف شود؟Where is استفاده کنید. اما در مکالمات دوستانه، محیط کار و پیامکها، استفاده از Where's نه تنها مجاز، بلکه توصیه میشود چون لحن شما را طبیعیتر میکند.Asking for Locations (Singular vs Plural)

نکات فرهنگی
In the UK, it is more common to ask for the 'toilet' or 'loo'. Asking for the 'bathroom' might imply you want to take a bath.
In the US, 'bathroom' or 'restroom' is the standard polite term. 'Toilet' is considered a bit too direct or graphic in social situations.
It is considered polite to start a 'Where is' question with 'Excuse me' when talking to strangers.
From Old English 'hwær', which has roots in Proto-Germanic 'hwar'.

No, 'keys' is plural. You must say `Where are the keys?` Use `is` only for one thing.
Yes, `Where's` is acceptable in most spoken contexts, but in formal writing, it is better to use the full `Where is`.
In English, liquids like milk or water are 'uncountable' and we treat them as singular. So, we use `is`.
Use `it` for objects or places (Where is the park? -> Where is it?). Use `he` or `she` for people.
It's better to say `Where is the bank?` or `Where is the bank located?`. Putting 'located' before the subject sounds a bit unnatural.
Use `the` if you are looking for a specific one or the nearest one. Use `a` if any hospital will do, though `the` is much more common.
You can say `It is [preposition] [place]`. For example: `It is on the table` or `It is in London`.
No, for time we use `When is`. `Where is` is only for physical or digital locations.
