A1 Possessives 1 min read かんたん

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

In Malay, the owner always comes after the object owned: [Object] + [Owner].

  • No apostrophe-s: Don't use 's. Example: 'Buku Ali' (Ali's book).
  • Direct placement: Just put the owner directly after the item. Example: 'Rumah saya' (My house).
  • No extra words: You don't need 'of' or 'punya' in formal writing. Example: 'Kereta ayah' (Father's car).
Item + Owner = Possessive

Meanings

This rule dictates that the possessor (the owner) follows the possessed (the item) directly, without any connecting particles.
