Tips & Tricks (4)

💡

The Comma Trick

Always put a comma before 'așa că' and 'încât'. It’s like a tiny breath for your sentence.

💡

The Comma Rule

Think of the comma as the connector's shadow. It almost always follows it or precedes it. When in doubt, put a comma before 'dar', 'însă', and 'deci'.

Common Mistakes

In Romanian, you cannot use 'deși' and 'dar' in the same sentence structure. 'Deși' already expresses the contrast.

Wrong: Deși ploua, dar am ieșit.
Correct: Deși ploua, am ieșit.

Using 'întrucât' and 'deci' together is redundant. Pick one logical connector for the relationship.

Wrong: Întrucât este frig, deci stau în casă.
Correct: Întrucât este frig, stau în casă.

Do not put a comma immediately after 'că'. The phrase should lead into the main clause.

Wrong: Având în vedere că, plouă.
Correct: Având în vedere că plouă, rămân acasă.

Common Questions (6)

They are mostly interchangeable. Deși is more common, while cu toate că is slightly more emphatic and formal.
Yes, you can. Just ensure the second part of the sentence explains the result, like Deoarece plouă, stau în casă.
Both mean 'so' or 'therefore'. Deci is very common in speech, while așadar is more elegant and often used in writing.
Yes, but use it sparingly. In formal writing, starting with Totuși or Cu toate acestea often sounds better.
The most common is likely și (and), but for B2, dar (but) and pentru că (because) are the most vital for building complex ideas.
Yes, you can start a sentence with Dar to add dramatic emphasis, just like in English. For example: Dar cine a spus asta? (But who said that?).
