It is considered polite for the person who invited someone to a restaurant to 'платити за всіх'. Splitting the bill is becoming more common among youth, but the 'host pays' rule still holds in many circles. In cities like Lviv, you might hear the word 'каса' used more frequently in the context of paying, and there's a strong tradition of small, independent coffee shops where 'платити' is part of a social ritual. The 'Monobank' culture: Ukrainians often say 'скинь на карту' (throw it on the card) instead of 'плати мені гроші'. It's a very modern way of handling debts. In villages, 'платити' might not always involve money. Sometimes people 'pay' with goods (barter), like eggs or milk, though this is decreasing.
