Using 'Има' (There is/are)

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use 'Има' to describe existence; it never changes form regardless of whether the object is singular or plural.

  • Use 'Има' for both singular and plural: 'Има ябълка' (There is an apple) / 'Има ябълки' (There are apples).
  • For negation, use 'Няма': 'Няма ябълка' (There is no apple).
  • For questions, add 'ли': 'Има ли ябълка?' (Is there an apple?).
