The Plural of Respect
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
In Marathi, we use plural verb forms and pronouns to show respect to elders, teachers, or strangers.
- Use 'ते' (te) instead of 'तो' (to) for singular male elders.
- Use 'त्या' (tya) instead of 'ती' (ti) for singular female elders.
- Always conjugate the verb in the plural form when addressing someone with respect.
