Complex Verb + Verb Combinations (V-V-V)
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Burmese allows you to stack multiple verbs to express complex actions, where the final verb often acts as an auxiliary or modifier.
- The main action verb comes first: 'စာဖတ်ကြည့်တယ်' (I try reading).
- Auxiliary verbs follow the main verb to add nuance: 'လုပ်ပေးလိုက်တယ်' (I did it for them).
- Only the final verb in the chain takes the tense/aspect markers: 'သွားစားလိုက်ကြရအောင်' (Let's go eat).

Meanings
A sequence of verbs where the first verb carries the core meaning and subsequent verbs modify the aspect, direction, or benefit of the action.
Benefactive
Doing an action for someone else.
“သူ့အတွက် ဝယ်ပေးတယ်။”
“ရေခွက်ကို ယူပေးလိုက်ပါ။”
Trial/Attempt
Trying to do something to see the result.
“စားကြည့်တယ်။”
“လုပ်ကြည့်လိုက်ပါ။”
Completion/Suddenness
Doing something completely or suddenly.
