The proverb 'Acele işe şeytan karışır' (The devil interferes in hurried work) is taught to every child. It encourages patience and doing things right the first time. In Istanbul, 'acele etmek' is a survival skill. The city's pace is much faster than the rest of the country, and people are constantly rushing to beat traffic. When hosting guests, you should never 'acele etmek'. Rushing a guest to finish their tea or leave is considered very rude. You will often see signs on highways saying 'Acele giden ecele gider' (He who goes in a hurry goes to his death). It's a grim but effective warning against speeding.
