Negating Past Continuous
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
To negate the past continuous in Bengali, add the negative particle 'না' after the main verb participle.
- Identify the verb root + 'তে' (e.g., 'করতে').
- Add the past auxiliary 'ছিলাম' (I was).
- Insert 'না' between the participle and the auxiliary: 'করতে ছিলাম না'.
Meanings
This structure describes actions that were not in progress at a specific time in the past.
Ongoing negation
Denying an action was happening over a duration in the past.
