بیخود

From Middle Persian. Formed from 'بی' (bi-, 'without') and 'خود' (xod, 'self'). Originally meant 'without self, beside oneself' (with emotion, ecstasy, or madness). Over time, it developed senses related to being out of control, then senseless, purposeless, and eventually worthless or in vain. This evolution reflects a semantic shift from an internal state of being overwhelmed to the external assessment of an action or object lacking inherent value or reason.
