Ukrainians often use 'Мені подобається' to be polite even if they aren't ecstatic. It's a safe middle ground. In Western Ukraine, you might hear 'Мені сподобалося' more frequently as a way to express that something has met your standards. Younger Kyivans might mix this with English loanwords like 'лайкати' (to like on social media). In the diaspora, sometimes the grammar gets simplified to 'Я подобаю', but this is considered incorrect in standard Ukrainian.
