Negation in Simple Past (oxumadı)
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
To negate a verb in the simple past, add '-ma' or '-mə' before the past tense suffix.
- Use '-ma' if the verb stem has back vowels (a, ı, o, u). Example: 'almadı' (he didn't buy).
- Use '-mə' if the verb stem has front vowels (e, ə, i, ö, ü). Example: 'gəlmədi' (he didn't come).
- The negative suffix always comes immediately after the verb root.
