Tipps & Tricks (4)

🎯

The 'U' factor

Almost every Kannada number ends in 'u'. If you forget the exact word, ending a sound with 'u' might actually help you guess it!

🎯

The 'N' Glue

When using the hadi- prefix with numbers starting with vowels (5, 6, 7, 8), always insert an 'n'. Hadi + aidu = hadinaidu. It makes you sound much more native!

💡

The 'Sh' Rule

Remember: Shukravaara (Fri) and Shanivaara (Sat) both start with 'Sh'. Friday has more syllables if you count the 'u' sound clearly!

💡

The 'Vare' Exception

Remember that 1:30 is always onduvare. Don't say ondu gante muvattu nimisha unless you're reading a formal digital clock out loud!

Wrong: Hattu ippattu

Häufige Fragen (6)

It is ondu. It rhymes with 'fondue' but starts with an 'O' sound.
Ondu is 'one' (cardinal), while onndane is 'first' (ordinal). Use ondu for counting things.
Not if you know 1-10! It's just about learning the two prefixes han- and hadi- and snapping them onto the numbers you already know.
It comes from hattu (ten). The 'ha' sound is the leftover of the word for ten, just shortened for speed.
Usually, no. Just saying Somavaara often implies 'on Monday' depending on the sentence structure.
The word is vaara. It is the same word used as a suffix for the days.
