Tone Rules for High Class

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

High-class consonants (like ຂ, ສ, ຫ) naturally rise in pitch unless a tone mark tells them otherwise.

  • No mark + Long vowel = Rising tone (like a question). Example: ສາ (sa).
  • Mai Ek (່) mark = Low tone (flat and deep). Example: ສ່າ (sa).
  • Mai Tho (້) mark = Falling tone (starts high, drops). Example: ສ້າ (sa).
High Consonant + ∅ = ↗️ | High Consonant + ່ = ↘️
