Verbos Descriptivos vs Acción: La trampa de 'Ser'

En coreano, los adjetivos funcionan como verbos de estado. No necesitas el verbo 'ser', ellos ya lo traen incluido.

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

In Korean, adjectives act like verbs, so you don't need a 'to be' verb to describe things.

  • Use descriptive verbs directly: 'The flower is pretty' becomes 'Flower pretty-is' (꽃이 예쁘다).
  • Do not add 'is' (이다) to adjectives: 'It is pretty' is just '예쁘다', not '예쁜이다'.
  • Conjugate descriptive verbs just like action verbs: 'It was pretty' (예뻤다).
Subject + 이/가 + Descriptive Verb (e.g., 예쁘다)

Overview

  1. 1La Forma Plana (Estilo Diario)
  • Verbos de Acción: Quita -da y añade -nunda o -neunda.
  • gada (ir) → ganda
  • Verbos Descriptivos: ¡Déjalo igual! Se queda como en el diccionario.
  • yeppeuda (ser bonito) → yeppeuda (NO yeppeunda)
  1. 1El Modificador de Sustantivo
  • Verbos de Acción: Usa -neun.
  • ganeun saram (La persona que va)
  • Verbos Descriptivos: Usa -(eu)n.
  • yeppeun saram (La persona bonita)
Cuándo usarlo
Verbos de Acción para narrativas e instrucciones.
Verbos Descriptivos para opiniones y sentimientos.
Errores Comunes
1. La trampa de Yo quiero
Los estudiantes suelen usar partículas de objeto (-eul/reul) con verbos descriptivos. Pero no puedes bonitear una pizza. Usa partículas de sujeto (-i/ga).
Contraste con patrones similares
Itda (existir) y Eopda (no existir)
Estos dos son los rebeldes. Actúan mayormente como verbos descriptivos, pero a veces roban terminaciones de acción.
Preguntas Frecuentes Rápidas
P: ¿Puedo convertir un verbo descriptivo en uno de acción?
R: ¡Sí! Añade -jida. YeppeudaYeppeojida (volverse bonito).

Rhyme

Desafío

Look around your room right now and describe 5 things using only [Noun] + [이/가] + [Descriptive Verb].

Notas culturales

Using descriptive verbs correctly is a sign of fluency. Koreans often drop the subject particle in casual speech.

The usage is similar, but formal endings like '-ㅂ니다' are more strictly adhered to in public discourse.

Heritage speakers often mix English syntax, leading to the 'is' mistake.

Korean descriptive verbs evolved from ancient adjectival roots that integrated the copula.
