Verbs Taking the Dative Case
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Some Azerbaijani verbs don't take a direct object; they require the Dative case (-a/-ə suffix) to show direction or target.
- Use -a/-ə for verbs like 'to go' (getmək): Mən Bakıya gedirəm (I am going to Baku).
- Use -a/-ə for verbs like 'to start' (başlamaq): Dərsə başlayırıq (We are starting the lesson).
- Use -a/-ə for verbs like 'to look' (baxmaq): Mənə bax (Look at me).
