Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

to be هست (was یا were). عمل هم فعل اصلیته که یه -ing به تهش چسبیده.Past Simple به ما میگه چی شد، Past Continuous به ما میگه دور و بر اون اتفاق چی داشت میگذشت. یه حس تداوم و پیشرفت رو ایجاد میکنه.I studied، مثل یه کار تموم شده به نظر میاد. اگه بگی I was studying، شبیه پروسهایه که زمان برده. وقتی ازش استفاده میکنی که بخوای شنوندهت صحنه رو تجسم کنه.The sun rose (خورشید طلوع کرد) و The sun was rising(خورشید داشت طلوع میکرد) هست. اولی یه فکته؛ دومی یه منظره زیبای صبحگاهی.
الگوی ساخت
Subject (فاعل - کسی یا چیزی که کار رو انجام میده) شروع کن.
was یا were رو اضافه کن. از was برای I، he، she و it استفاده کن. از were برای you، we و they استفاده کن.

-ing رو فراموش نکن! اگه یه فعلی به -e ختم میشه، حذفش کن (مثل make که میشه making). اگه یه فعل کوتاه با یه حرف صدادار و یه بیصداست، حرف آخر رو دو بار بنویس (مثل run که میشه running). اگه به -y ختم میشه، کاریش نداشته باش و فقط -ing رو اضافه کن (مثل play که میشه playing). قول میدم این کار از انتخاب فیلم برای شب جمعه آسونتره.

اشتباهات رایج
I was working میگن I working yesterday. به اون was یا were نیاز داری تا مثل چسب عمل کنه! یه اشتباه کلاسیک دیگه استفاده از نسخه اشتباه فعل کمکیه. یادت باشه: was برای آدمای «تنها» و مفرد (I, he, she, it) هست، و were برای گروهها (we, they) و مهمون ویژه you.comming به جای coming یا runing به جای running. اون حروف بیصدا رو چک کن! در آخر، از Past Continuous برای کارهای سریع و ناگهانی استفاده نکن. نمیگی I was dropping my phone(داشتم گوشیم رو میانداختم). مگه اینکه داشتی توی یه صحنه فیلم دراماتیک به صورت سوپر اسلوموشن میانداختیش، وگرنه معمولاً لحظهای اتفاق میافته:

آدما اغلب بین Past Simple و Past Continuous گیج میشن. اینجا آسونترین راه برای به خاطر سپردن تفاوتشون هست:
Past Simple برای کارهای تکمیل شدهست. این یعنی «چی شد». (I watched a movie - یه فیلم دیدم).Past Continuous برای کارهای در حال انجامه. این یعنی «چی داشت میشد/اتفاق میافتاد». (I was watching a movie - داشتم یه فیلم میدیدم).اگه Past Simple یه عکس تک باشه، Past Continuous یه فایل گیف (GIF) هست. از Past Simple برای رویدادهای اصلی یه داستان و از Past Continuous برای جزئیات و صحنه استفاده میکنی.

فقط اگه بخوای شبیه دزدای دریایی حرف بزنی یا داری از اسلنگ (slang) خیلی قدیمی استفاده میکنی. توی انگلیسی استاندارد، همیشه you were هست.

نه! بخش -ing دقیقاً همون شکلی میمونه. فقط was و were تغییر میکنن.

Meanings
The Past Continuous describes actions or events that were in progress at a specific time in the past. It emphasizes the duration or the 'ongoingness' of the action.
Action in progress at a specific time
To show what someone was doing at a precise moment in the past.

Interrupted action
To describe a longer background action that was interrupted by a shorter event (usually in Past Simple).
