ماضی کامل: ساده در برابر استمراری (توالی)

با یاد گرفتن Past Perfect Simple و Past Perfect Continuous می‌تونی مثل یه حرفه‌ای ترتیب اتفاق‌های گذشته رو بگی و داستان‌هات رو خیلی منطقی‌تر تعریف کنی.

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use Past Perfect to show one past action happened before another; Simple for results, Continuous for duration and process.

  • Use Simple for completed actions: 'I had finished the report before lunch.'
  • Use Continuous for ongoing actions: 'I had been working for hours when she called.'
  • Never use Continuous with stative verbs like 'know' or 'believe'.
Subject + had + (been) + Verb(ed/ing) ⏪⏪

### Overview
### How This Grammar Works
When I arrived at the office (رویداد ب), my boss had already left (رویداد الف).
  • مثال: When I saw him (رویداد ب), his clothes were covered in paint because he had been decorating his apartment (رویداد الف).
| When I arrived, he left. (گذشته ساده) |
| وقتی رسیدم، او رفته بود. | When I arrived, he had left. (گذشته کامل ساده) |
| داشتم می‌رفتم که او رسید. | I was going when he arrived. (گذشته استمراری) |
| داشتم می‌رفتم که او رسید. (تأکید بر اینکه رفتن من قبل از رسیدن او شروع شده بود) | I had been going when he arrived.
### Formation Pattern
دقت در ساخت این افعال بسیار حیاتی است. الگوهای زیر را برای جملات مثبت، منفی و سؤالی دنبال کنید.
گذشته کامل ساده (Past Perfect Simple)
| حالت | الگو | مثال |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| مثبت | Subject + had + Past Participle | They had seen the film before. (آن‌ها قبلاً فیلم را دیده بودند.) |
| منفی | Subject + had not (hadn't) + Past Participle | She hadn't received the email. (او ایمیل را دریافت نکرده بود.) |
| سؤال | Had + Subject + Past Participle? | Had you finished the report? (گزارش را تمام کرده بودی؟) |
گذشته کامل استمراری (Past Perfect Continuous)
| حالت | الگو | مثال |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| مثبت | Subject + had + been + Verb-ing | I had been working there for five years. (من پنج سال بود که آنجا کار می‌کردم.) |
| منفی | Subject + had not (hadn't) + been + Verb-ing | We hadn't been feeling well. (ما احساس خوبی نداشتیم.) |
| سؤال | Had + Subject + been + Verb-ing? | Had they been arguing again? (آیا آن‌ها دوباره داشتند بحث می‌کردند؟) |
نکته مهم: در زبان انگلیسی گفتاری و نوشتاری غیررسمی، مخفف ‘d برای had بسیار رایج است. مثال: I'd decided, She'd left, They'd been driving.
### When To Use It
از این افعال به صورت هدفمند برای افزودن وضوح و عمق به روایت خود استفاده کنید.
از گذشته کامل ساده برای موارد زیر استفاده کنید:
  • ترتیب‌بندی یک عمل کامل شده قبل از عملی دیگر در گذشته. این وظیفه اصلی آن است. روشن می‌کند که یک رویداد قبل از شروع رویداد بعدی، به پایان رسیده بود.
  • By the time the paramedics arrived, a bystander had already performed CPR. (تا زمانی که امدادگران رسیدند، یکی از حاضران قبلاً احیای قلبی ریوی را انجام داده بود.)
  • He couldn't pay for dinner because he had lost his wallet. (او نتوانست هزینه شام را بپردازد چون کیف پولش را گم کرده بود.)
  • گزارش رویدادهای گذشته با استفاده از نقل قول غیرمستقیم (Reported Speech). هنگامی که کسی در گذشته ساده یا گذشته کامل صحبت کرده است، ما اغلب آن را به گذشته کامل «عقب می‌بریم» (backshift).
  • نقل قول مستقیم: `

I had been knowing him.

I had known him.

💡

دنبال یه نشونه از گذشته ساده بگرد

گذشته کامل معمولاً تنها نمیاد و احتیاج به یه اتفاق دیگه در گذشته ساده داره تا زمان‌ها رو با هم مقایسه کنی:
I had finished my dinner when she called.
⚠️

الکی جمله‌ها رو پیچیده نکن

اگه ترتیب اتفاق‌ها خیلی واضحه یا از کلماتی مثل then استفاده می‌کنی، همون گذشته ساده کافیه و نیازی به گذشته کامل نیست:
First I ate breakfast and then I left.
🎯

از 'by the time' برای شفافیت استفاده کن

عبارت‌هایی مثل before یا by the time بهترین دوستات هستن تا نشون بدی یه کاری قبل از یه تایم خاص تموم شده:
By the time the movie ended, I had fallen asleep.
🌍

نیتیوها گاهی قضیه رو ساده می‌کنن

توی مکالمات خیلی دوستانه، ممکنه نیتیوها به جای گذشته کامل از همون گذشته ساده استفاده کنن، اما برای دقیق بودن بهتره درستشو بگی:
She said she had forgotten to call me.
💡

به رابطه 'علت و معلول' فکر کن

گذشته کامل استمراری معمولاً دلیلی برای یه وضعیت در گذشته رو توضیح میده، مثلاً خستگی به خاطر یه کار طولانی:
He was tired because he had been jogging.

Smart Tips

Check if you need the Continuous form to explain the reason for a past state.

He was tired because he worked. He was tired because he had been working.

Always use the Simple form, never the Continuous.

I'd been reading five books. I'd read five books.

You can use Past Simple for both if you want to sound more casual.

After I had eaten, I left. After I ate, I left.

Instantly delete the '-ing' from your mind. These are stative!

I'd been liking that band. I'd liked that band.

تلفظ

I'd /aɪd/

The 'd contraction

The word 'had' is almost always reduced to /d/ after a vowel.

I'd been /aɪdbɪn/

Been reduction

In the continuous form, 'been' is often pronounced as /bɪn/ (like 'bin'), not /biːn/.

Emphasis on 'had'

I *had* finished it!

Used to contradict someone who thinks you didn't finish.

روش یادسپاری

Simple is for the 'Stop' (result), Continuous is for the 'Clock' (duration).

تداعی تصویری

Imagine a movie scene. The Past Simple is the main action. The Past Perfect is a 'flashback' bubble showing what happened before the scene started.

Rhyme

When the past has a past of its own, the Past Perfect is what should be shown.

Story

I arrived at the party (Past Simple). I saw that Sarah had already left (Simple - result). I was sad because I had been looking forward to seeing her (Continuous - duration).

شبکه واژگان

hadbeenalreadybeforeuntilsincejust

چالش

Write three sentences about your last vacation: one thing you did, one thing you had already done before you arrived, and one thing you had been doing for a long time before you left.

نکات فرهنگی

BrE speakers use the Past Perfect more strictly than AmE speakers, especially with 'just' and 'already'.

In casual AmE, speakers often substitute the Past Simple for the Past Perfect if the word 'before' or 'after' is used.

The Past Perfect is essential in literature and history to maintain a precise chronological order.

The 'had' + past participle construction evolved in Old English (hæfde + V3) to express completed aspect.

موضوعات نگارش

Describe your most stressful morning. What had gone wrong before you even left the house?

سوالات متداول (8)

Yes, if you use words like 'before' or 'after', the meaning is clear. However, the Past Perfect is more precise and expected in formal writing.

'Was' is the Past Simple of 'be'. 'Had been' is the Past Perfect. Use 'had been' if you are looking back from another past point.

Both are often possible. 'Had been working' emphasizes the process, while 'had worked' emphasizes the state or fact.

It sounds like the word 'eyed'. In fast speech, it's just a quick /d/ sound attached to the 'I'.

Yes, to show how long something had been happening up to a point in the past. 'I had been living there since 2005.'

Absolutely. 'I had just finished' means you finished a very short time before the second past event.

Usually, only the earliest action gets the Past Perfect. The others stay in the Past Simple.

Yes! The first 'had' is the auxiliary, and the second 'had' is the past participle of 'have'. 'I had had lunch already.'
