Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
In Croatian, verbs come in pairs: one for ongoing actions (imperfective) and one for completed results (perfective).
- Add a prefix to an imperfective verb to make it perfective: 'pisati' (to write) -> 'napisati' (to finish writing).
- Add a suffix to a perfective verb to make it imperfective: 'kupiti' (to buy) -> 'kupovati' (to be buying).
- Perfective verbs cannot be used in the present tense to describe ongoing actions.
