Could: درخواست‌های مودبانه

با Could you و فعل ساده، یه دستور مستقیم رو تبدیل به یه درخواست «محترمانه» و «مودبانه» می‌کنی.

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use 'Could' to turn a direct command into a polite, professional request that people actually want to help with.

  • Use 'Could' + Subject + Base Verb (no 'to') for polite questions: 'Could you help?'
  • Add 'please' or 'possibly' to increase the level of politeness: 'Could you possibly wait?'
  • Never add '-s' to 'could', even for he/she/it: 'Could she call me back?'

مرور کلی

تابه‌حال شده موقعی که می‌خواستی کمک کنی، ناخواسته بی‌ادب به نظر بیای؟ واسه بهترینِ ما هم پیش میاد. توی انگلیسی، لحنِ درخواست کردن خیلی مهمه.
اگه بگی Give me the salt (نمک رو بده به من)، ممکنه بقیه چپ‌چپ نگات کنن. اما اگه بگی Could you pass the salt?

6
Form | Example | Translation
7
--- | --- | ---
8
Positive Question | Could you help me? | می‌شه کمکم کنید؟
9
With Please | Could you please wait? | می‌شه لطفاً منتظر بمونید؟
10
With Adverb | Could you just check this? | می‌شه فقط اینو چک کنید؟
11
یادت باشه فعلی که بعد از you میاد باید فعل «لخت» باشه. یعنی to help نه، فقط help. فعلِ helping هم نه، فقط help. یه جورایی مثل سبک زندگی مینیمالیستی برای فعل‌هاست! اگه می‌خوای خیلی دیگه مؤدب باشی، می‌تونی please رو بعد از کلمه‌ی you جا بدی. مثلاً: Could you please send me the Netflix password?

Could I have a coffee, please? (می‌شه یه قهوه داشته باشم، لطفاً؟). (البته صبر کن، این درس درباره‌ی Could you هست، پس برگردیم سرِ اصل مطلب!). اگه لازم داری باریستا لپ‌تاپش رو جابه‌جا کنه، بگو Could you move your laptop a bit? وقتی به یه دوست پیام می‌دی و یه لطفی ازش می‌خوای که بیشتر از ۵ دقیقه وقت می‌گیره، از این ساختار استفاده کن.
جمله‌ی Could you read my essay? خیلی بهتر از Can you read my essay? به نظر می‌رسه. توی محیط‌های کاری هم مدام ازش استفاده کن. پیام‌های اسلک (Slack)، ایمیل به استادها و درخواست‌های لینکدین، همه‌شون عاشقِ could هستن.
این نشون می‌ده که تو مرزهای اجتماعی رو می‌فهمی. برای سفر هم عالیه؛ اگه توی لندن گم شدی و آدرس می‌خوای، با این جمله شروع کن: Could you tell me where the station is?

Could you to help me? این جمله برای انگلیسی‌زبون‌ها مثل کشیدنِ ناخن روی تخته‌سیاه آزاردهنده است. یه اشتباه رایج دیگه، استفاده از شکل گذشته‌ی فعلِ اصلیه. مثلاً Could you helped me? غلطه. با اینکه خودِ could یه جورایی گذشته‌ست، ولی فعل اصلی باید توی شکل ساده‌ی زمان حال بمونه. حواست به لحنت هم باشه. اگه با یه آهِ عمیق بگی Could you NOT? (می‌شه انجامش ندی؟!)، دیگه یه درخواستِ مؤدبانه نیست؛ بلکه کنایه‌ست. کنایه زدن باحاله، ولی کمکی به قبول شدنت توی امتحان زبان نمی‌کنه! همچنین موقع نوشتن، علامت سؤال رو فراموش نکن. Could you send that. مثل یه دستور می‌مونه که لباسِ could پوشیده؛ این خواننده رو گیج می‌کنه. در آخر، وقتی درخواستت خیلی کوچیکه و با دوست‌های خیلی صمیمی هستی، ازش استفاده نکن. اگه از بهترین دوستت بپرسی Could you please pass the remote?

بعدش Would you mind...? رو داریم که از اونم رسمی‌تره. مثلاً Can you help? برای هم‌اتاقیته. Could you help? برای همسایه‌ته.
و Would you mind helping me? برای وقتیه که رئیسِت سرش شلوغ به نظر می‌رسه. ساختار May I هم هست، ولی اون معمولاً برای اجازه گرفتنه، نه درخواست کردن. اگه بگی May you help me?

Q

فرقِ بین Could you و Would you چیه؟

خیلی شبیه هم هستن. Could بیشتر روی «امکان‌پذیر بودن» تمرکز داره، در حالی که Would روی «تمایل» طرف مقابل تمرکز می‌کنه. جفت‌شون خیلی مؤدبانه هستن.
