Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Two long syllables cannot stand next to each other in Slovak; the second one must shorten.
- If a suffix starts with a long syllable, it must shorten if the preceding syllable is long.
- Example: 'múdry' (wise) + 'ý' suffix becomes 'múdry' (no change) but 'písaný' (written) stays 'písaný'.
- The law applies primarily to suffixes and endings, not roots.
