Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use 'Phut' (พูด) for the act of speaking and 'Bang' (บอก) for telling information to someone.

  • Use 'Phut' (พูด) to mean 'to speak' or 'to talk' generally: 'Phut Thai' (Speak Thai).
  • Use 'Bang' (บอก) when you tell someone specific information: 'Bang khao' (Tell him/her).
  • Always place the object after the verb: 'Phut' + [language] or 'Bang' + [person].
