Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Hungarian vowels come in short and long pairs; changing the length changes the meaning of the word entirely.
- Short vowels (a, e, i, o, u) are quick and crisp.
- Long vowels (á, é, í, ó, ú) are held for twice the duration.
- The umlauted vowels (ö, ü) also have long versions (ő, ű) marked by double acute accents.

Phonemic contrast
Using length to differentiate lexical meaning.
“A ház (house) vs. a has (stomach).”

Rhyme
Short is quick, long is slow, watch the mark and you will know.
Story
