BREAKING NEWS: Greenland, Trump, & the New Fight Over Arctic Power | Shane Smith Has Questions
Sous-titres (215 segments)
So, we're in Copenhagen, normally very quiet Copenhagen. And why do I say normally quiet?
Because now it's very hot. Several European countries are sending troops to Greenland in
a show of support for Denmark as it tries to persuade President Trump not to take over the
island. It's one of the hottest discussions in geopolitics right now because America has said
that they want to have some type of economic or otherwise annexation of Greenland which
is for now run by the Danes and we've said well you know maybe Greenland will
separate. The Danes are saying no there's negotiations. American senators have just
arrived here a few hours ago into the prime minister's office and will be addressing their
parliament about what exactly is happening with America, Greenland, and the Danes.
We're here in Danish Parliament. There's a bipartisan committee of senators here
from America meeting with the Danish Parliament about annexation. And so
we're going to try to get a question in Come on, we'll go over to the side.
Hi, how are you? Nice to meet you, Rice News. What's going on? We just wanted to ask you if
it was brought up in the panel about the buildup of troops over the last two days
that's been happening in Greenland. Nobody can get in because there's so many troop
planes going in and out. And so for you didn't talk about you didn't talk about that. Um,
what were the biggest things you focused on? You know, the biggest was our chance to listen
to the heartfelt uh self desire Greenlanders to be respected, right? Uh so it's quite irring for
us. Excuse me. Oh, sorry. Sorry, sorry, sorry. Hi, how are you? Right here. Can I just get one
quick question? Uh journalists can't get into Greenland right now because the airspace has
been so busy because of so many troop movements. What do you have to do? Did you talk about that
in the panel? We can't report on it because there's so many troop movements in there. No,
you didn't talk about it. No. You have any reason for that? No. Okay. Thank you. Thank you.
Nice to meet you. I'm pouring this. Pouring. Can I get one question, sir? Did you talk at
all in the panel about the recent buildup of troops into Greenland? No civilian aircraft can
get in and out. We talked about the strategy. Yeah. So, we're working together. That's what
this is all about. All right. Thank you. Excuse me. Hi. How are you? Right here. Right here.
Right here. Hi. Hello. Thank you for this taking the time. Sorry. You have been very persistent,
but sorry. We have I don't know. We just wanted to Did the panel discuss at all the recent buildup
of troops that's happened from Europe and NATO into Greenland? I can say this was a confidential
space. Uh but what we focused on there was to strengthen our dialogue based on respect
and trust and and uh and then there was a very uh strong willingness from the American delegation to
listen into our colleagues from Greenland and hear their experiences uh hear what they are facing,
hear the voices from Greenland and and listen in to how the current situation is creating a lot
of uncertainty and fear, anxiety amongst kids. Uh and that I think was uh something that made
a impression on the the litigation that I can say and what were the Americans most concerned about
during this panel discussion? Well, I can't refer from the but I can refer from what they said here.
uh I think they are uh that there's a joint wish to have deescalate uh and not to be seen uh in any
way here as confrontational uh or divisional but it's a bipartisan litigation that share a wish to
have a dialogue based on trust based on respect and it was emphasized I can say also without
tariff voting individual members how crucial this This is for our alliance unusual. This is uh for
our uh prosperity, our freedom and our security. And that that was a a clear and strong message
within the room from every participant. Thank you for your time, sir. Thank you. Thank you.
